Acne Scars - Is There Any Hope?

If there's something that's much worse than having really bad acne,
it would be having prominent and ugly acne scars - an unwanted
souvenir from break outs past.

Acne scars are one of the more difficult things to get rid of. They
range in severity from dark spots to deep crevices. For those who
have it, having acne scars is just as bad as having acne itself.

Fortunately, there are treatments and procedures that can be done
to lessen their prominence and achieve flawless skin. Here are just
some of them:

1. Diamond Peel

This procedure uses diamond tipped wands to exfoliate
the skin and remove dead skin cells. It exfoliates the skin much
more deeply than regular exfoliants. This procedure is usually done
once a month. It is also a non-invasive procedure, which means you
can go home right after it's done. There is no recovery period
associated to it as well, although dermatologists will advise you
to refrain from putting anything on the skin for 24 to 48 hours
after the procedure.

2. Dermabrasion and Dermaplaning

This procedure for renewing skin and
removing acne scars requires a dermatological surgeon. It's an
out-patient procedure where you will be anesthesized. What happens
is the top layer of the skin is removed, stimulating the body to
produce new and younger skin. This is a more effective procedure
than diamond peels when it comes to addressing acne scars.
Although, you will have to follow a maintenance regimen for a few
months after the procedure.

3. Chemical Peels

This procedure uses chemicals to remove the top
layer of skin using chemicals. There are 3 types of peels - light
chemical peel, medium chemical peel, and deep chemical peel. Side
effects include redness, swelling and stinging. You will need to
follow a strict maintenance care regiment after the peel to help
reduce the incidence or severity of the side effects. This is best
performed by a dermatological surgeon.

4. Laser

There are different types of laser treatments that can be
performed depending on the severity of the acne scar. What makes
laser treatments popular is that it's non-invasive and depending on
the procedure, may or may not have any recovery period associated
with it. This procedure is also best done by a dermatological
surgeon.

How effective these treatments are for you will depend on several
factors such as your skin type, the severity of the acne scar and
the presence or absence of active acne.
